Paris is the capital of France, and also by far the largest city of the country, with over 12 Million habitants in the metropolitan area.
The city of Paris has a lot to offer. World’s most famous painting, the Mona Lisa of Leonardo da Vinci, is located in world’s most famous and largest museum, the Louvre. The Louvre is lying in the deep center of Paris and easy to recognize, by the piramid shape in front of the Louvre palace.
From the Louvre you can draw one straight line (historic axle) on the map to the Arc de Triomphe. In between is the Champs-Élysées, known for its theaters, cafés and exclusive shops. The Tour de France finishes every year on this 70m wide street. When standing on the Arc de Triomphe you can oversee the Champs-Élysées and 11 (!) other streets, which are connected to the Place Charles de Gaulle.
Another building you can climb on, is perhaps the most recognized tower in the world, the Eiffel Tower. Located just next to the river Seine, this iron giant of 324m is an icon for Paris and France. Something you can’t miss, especially when the tower lits up in the dark.
Paris is also a city of churches, well actually cathedrals. There is the Cathedral of Notre Dame, with its Gothic architecture. Perhaps you even see the Hunchback somewhere inside. And there is the Basilica of Sacre-Coeur on the Montmartre hill. Both are more than worth seeing.
As France was a kingdom for centuries, Paris is a city with various palaces. The biggest and most interesting one, is the Palace of Versailles, just outside the city. This palace was built by Louis the 13th and expanded by his successors, to one of the largest in the world. Zopfi Travel’s busses can take you from Paris to Versailles in a blink of an eye.
If you want to relax from all the sightseeing, stop at one of the many shops and department stores. Galeries La Fayette is among the biggest shops in Europe, with all known fashion brands inside. Or make a romantic walk down the river Seine and taste the excellent French kitchen in a charming restaurant. Très bien!
